How to Be Smart About Your Wi-Fi Choice


802.11ac Wi-Fi supports multiple radios and antennas that can transmit and receive multiple data streams. In Wi-Fi vernacular, these configurations are noted as 1x1, 2x2, and so on. More antennas and data streams mean faster speeds, fewer dead zones, fewer dropped connections, and better coverage. You save time, view smoother HD videos, and roam more freely with fewer interruptions. A 2x2 802.11ac adapter reaches a maximum data rate of up to 867 Mbps—three times faster than 802.11n.

Dual band

Dual band uses both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi frequencies. 5 GHz delivers five times the capacity of the legacy 2.4 GHz with less congestion and interference. The 2.4 GHz frequency is a crowded space with limited capacity and subject to interference from all kinds of other wireless devices. Dual band 802.11ac Wi-Fi adapters let you take advantage of 5 GHz capabilities while enabling you to connect to legacy 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi hotspots when needed.
