General purpose workloads, such as SPECint*2006, characterize compute, memory and software characteristics which serves as a yardstick for a very wide variety of server usages such as compression, compilation, AI, gene sequencing, and many other integer-based applications workloads.  The measured or published results help IT decision makers create a first-level assessment of various server options, analyze consolidation opportunities, do capacity planning and assess the valuation of the services offered.

General Compute with SPECint_rate_base2006*

This CPU-intensive benchmark suite, stressing a system's processor, memory subsystem, and compiler, provides a comparative measure of compute-intensive performance across the widest practical range of hardware using workloads developed from real user applications. Rate results measure the throughput of multiple tasks. The metrics are based on a geometric mean of normalized ratios.  CINT2006 is for measuring and comparing compute-intensive integer performance across 12 throughput workloads or tasks (nine use C and three use C++).  For more information, see www.spec.org/cpu2006.
